Quiche Dinner or Lunch Sides: Elevating Your Main Course
When serving quiche for dinner or lunch, the right side dishes can transform a simple meal into an extraordinary culinary event. Quiche itself offers a fantastic weeknight dinner solution, being both affordable and a clever way to utilize leftovers. The following selections are ideal for both casual family meals and more formal gatherings, ensuring every bite is perfectly balanced.
- Green Salads: A crisp, refreshing green salad is a quintessential pairing for quiche. Its light, acidic dressing (like a vinaigrette) cuts through the richness of the quiche, providing a palate cleanser. Opt for mixed greens with cherry tomatoes, cucumber, and a light lemon-herb dressing for a vibrant contrast.
- Roasted Vegetables: Roasting brings out the natural sweetness and depth of vegetables, making them an excellent savory complement. Think asparagus, broccoli, bell peppers, or root vegetables like carrots and parsnips, seasoned simply with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Their tender-crisp texture adds a delightful dimension.
- Potatoes: Potatoes, in their many forms, offer comforting substance. Roasted potatoes, scalloped potatoes, or a light potato salad can round out the meal beautifully. Their earthy flavor and satisfying texture create a hearty counterpoint to the quiche’s delicate custardy filling.
- French Bread: A warm, crusty loaf of French bread is perfect for soaking up any lingering quiche flavors. Serve it with a smear of butter, or transform it into garlic bread for an extra layer of savory delight.
- Steamed Veggies: For a lighter option, simple steamed vegetables like green beans, peas, or corn provide a fresh, healthy accompaniment without overpowering the quiche. A touch of butter or a sprinkle of fresh herbs can enhance their natural taste.
- Soup: A warm bowl of soup, particularly a creamy vegetable soup or a clear broth, can serve as a delightful starter or a lighter side. The gentle warmth and varied textures of soup prepare the palate for the main course.
- Fruit Salad: A vibrant fruit salad adds a burst of sweetness and freshness, offering a delightful contrast to the savory quiche. Seasonal berries, melon, grapes, and citrus segments create a colorful and healthy side.
- Dinner Rolls: Soft, warm dinner rolls are a simple yet satisfying addition, providing a fluffy texture and a hint of sweetness that pairs well with savory quiche. Brush them with melted butter for an extra treat.
- Chicken Salad: A light and creamy chicken salad, perhaps with grapes or celery for crunch, can be served alongside the quiche or even on small bread slices. It offers a protein-rich option that doesn’t compete with the quiche’s flavors.
- Ham Steaks: For a more substantial meal, thinly sliced pan-fried ham steaks provide a savory, salty kick that perfectly complements the eggs and cheese in a quiche.
- Garlic Bread: Beyond simple French bread, a rich and aromatic garlic bread adds a punch of flavor and a satisfyingly crunchy crust, making it an irresistible partner to any quiche.
- Rice: A simple pilaf or plain white rice can serve as a neutral base, allowing the quiche’s flavors to shine while providing a filling component.
- Pasta Salad: A light pasta salad, with fresh vegetables and a zesty dressing, adds texture and flavor without being too heavy. Choose a vinaigrette-based dressing over a creamy one to keep it fresh.
- Potato Pancakes (Latkes): Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, potato pancakes offer a savory, comforting side with a satisfying crunch.
- Tuna Salad: Similar to chicken salad, a well-made tuna salad can be a refreshing and protein-packed side, especially delightful when served chilled.
Sides For Brunch: Perfect Pairings for a Morning Feast
Brunch is an occasion for leisurely indulgence, and quiche often takes center stage. Whether you’re hosting a festive Easter or Mother’s Day gathering, or simply enjoying a relaxing weekend morning, the right side dishes will complete your brunch spread. These options pair beautifully with any quiche recipe, as well as other breakfast egg dishes like Breakfast Egg Muffins, frittatas, hash brown casserole, or Egg Green Chili Casserole. Don’t forget the classic champagne mimosas with a splash of orange juice to toast the occasion!
- Grits: Creamy, savory grits offer a comforting and traditional southern accompaniment, especially delicious when topped with cheese.
- Oatmeal: A bowl of warm, hearty oatmeal provides a wholesome and customizable side, whether served plain or with a drizzle of maple syrup and fresh fruit.
- Crepes: Delicate crepes, whether filled with sweet fruit and cream or savory cheese and herbs, add a touch of elegance to any brunch table.
- Muffins: Freshly baked muffins, from blueberry to bran, provide a sweet and convenient grab-and-go option that complements the savory quiche.
- Baked Oatmeal: A flavorful baked oatmeal casserole, often studded with fruit and nuts, offers a comforting and easily portioned sweet side.
- Bacon: Crispy bacon is a brunch staple, providing a salty, savory crunch that is simply irresistible alongside a rich quiche.
- Scones: Buttery, flaky scones, served with jam and clotted cream, offer a refined touch and a delightful textural contrast.
- Pastries: An assortment of pastries like croissants, danishes, or pain au chocolat adds a European flair and varied sweet options.
- Potato Pancakes: These golden, crispy delights are just as welcome at brunch as they are at dinner, offering a satisfying savory crunch.
- Yogurt Parfaits: Layers of creamy yogurt, granola, and fresh berries create a light, healthy, and visually appealing side.
- Sausage: Breakfast sausage, whether links or patties, provides a savory, protein-rich complement to the quiche.
- Hash Browns: Crispy, golden hash browns are a classic breakfast side that pairs perfectly with the fluffy texture of quiche.
- French Toast: Sweet and fluffy French toast, drizzled with syrup and topped with berries, offers a delightful contrast to savory quiche.
- Fruit Salad: A colorful fruit salad brings freshness and natural sweetness, balancing the richness of the quiche beautifully.
- Danish: Flaky, fruit-filled danishes provide a sweet, pastry-based option that guests will adore.
- Cottage Cheese: A simple bowl of cottage cheese, perhaps with a sprinkle of pepper or fruit, offers a light and protein-rich choice.
- Biscotti: Crunchy biscotti, perfect for dipping in coffee or tea, adds an Italian-inspired, subtly sweet element.
- Smoothies: Freshly blended fruit smoothies offer a refreshing, healthy, and vibrant drinkable side.
- Breakfast Potatoes: Roasted or pan-fried breakfast potatoes, seasoned with herbs, are a hearty and flavorful addition to any brunch spread.
- Pancakes: Fluffy pancakes, served with butter and maple syrup, are a timeless brunch favorite that offers a sweet and satisfying balance to savory quiche.

Roasting Tips
- To achieve golden, caramelized exteriors, it’s important to not crowd the pan. If the contents can’t lie flat in a single layer, divide the mixture between two pans, rotating halfway through.
- The initial bake is longer to create a browned exterior. Leave the carrots and apples untouched, not tossing or moving, until the side touching the baking sheet starts to brown.
- If carrots are thick, slice lengthwise to make two thinner halves. When I roast carrots, I leave some whole and halve others to make sure they are uniform and cook at the same rate.
